SEMPRE A HABITAR-NOS
Sempre a habitar-nos é composta por uma série de fotografias da natureza captadas por Paula Clerman em vários países do mundo e que buscam reproduzir dentro de um enquadramento, a dimensão da natureza em sua grandiosidade. A beleza da imagem visa por um lado provocar o encantamento e por outro despertar uma inquietude e a mudança de atitude frente aos desafios da vida contemporânea. Parte das fotos é revestida por uma película plástica, com o objetivo de evidenciar as consequências muitas vezes invisíveis, da destruição do meio ambiente.
Também faz parte do trabalho um vídeo de 5'20" filmado à beira do rio Tejo, registro de um fenômeno em que um cardume diariamente se concentra em um mesmo local, a saída de um esgoto. A imagem apesar de plasticamente bela, dotada de textura e movimento, é resultado da intervenção nociva do homem no meio ambiente. O título do trabalho se refere à eterna presença do lixo em nossas vidas, onde a ideia de descarte é ilusória.
O trabalho é calcado em reflexões sobre a responsabilidade do processo de industrialização e do estímulo irresponsável do consumo, que por um lado promoveu o conforto, mas por outro necessita de soluções para a sustentabilidade do planeta. Se somos os criadores do futuro, teremos que repensar nosso relacionamento com a natureza e o que produzimos diariamente, sabendo que aquilo que polui, de alguma forma, acaba sendo consumido novamente por nós, pois não somos um objeto separado da natureza. Fomos pensados para fazer parte deste ambiente e nos relacionarmos com ele, fomos pensados para conviver em harmonia .
FOREVER INHABITING US
Forever inhabiting us is composed by nature photographs captured by Paula Clerman in several countries, in an attempt to reproduce, inside a frame, the dimension of nature in its majesty. The beauty of the image aims to inspire awe and at the same time awaken disquiet and an attitude change in the face of the challenges brought on by contemporary life. A part of each picture is lined with a plastic film that helps highlight the, often unseen, consequences of the destruction of the environment.
The work also includes a 5’20’’ video shot on the shores of the Tagus River, which is the record of a phenomenon: a school of fish gather daily at the same place – a sewer outlet. Although the image is aesthetically beautiful and full of texture and movement, it is the product of man’s harmful intervention in the environment.
The title of the work refers to the lingering presence of garbage in our lives, where the idea of disposal is but an illusion. The work is based on reflections on the responsibility of the industrialization process and the irresponsible incentive for consumption, which, on the one hand has promoted comfort, but on the other needs solutions to ensure the sustainability of the planet. If we are the builders of the future, we will have to rethink our relationship with nature and what we produce daily – knowing that anything that pollutes will end up being re-consumed by us because we are not separate from nature. We were envisioned to be part of the environment and relate to it – we were envisioned to live together in harmony.
